How do I set up an addon domain in cPanel?

An addon domain lets you host another domain name inside the same cPanel account.

For example, you may have your main website at:

yourdomain.co.nz

and add another website such as:

anotherdomain.co.nz

Important note

Addon domains are only suitable when the domains are owned or managed by the same customer.

Standard web hosting plans are not intended for hosting multiple unrelated customer websites.

If you want to host websites for different customers, you should use a Reseller Hosting plan.

Step 1: Log in to cPanel

Log in to cPanel through your WebhostingNZ client area.

If you are unsure how to access cPanel, please follow this guide first:

How to access cPanel from the Client Area

Step 2: Open Domains

In cPanel, open Domains.

Older cPanel layouts may show a separate Addon Domains icon.

Step 3: Add the domain

Click Create A New Domain.

Enter the domain name you want to add.

For example:

anotherdomain.co.nz

Make sure the document root is the folder you want this domain to use.

For example:

public_html/anotherdomain.co.nz

Step 4: Save the change

Click Submit or Create.

cPanel will add the domain to your hosting account.

Step 5: Point the domain to WebhostingNZ

The addon domain must point to the correct WebhostingNZ server before it will work.

If the domain uses WebhostingNZ nameservers, DNS can usually be managed automatically.

If the domain is registered elsewhere, update the nameservers at the registrar or update the DNS records to point to your hosting server.

Step 6: Upload the website files

Upload the website files for the addon domain into the document root folder created for that domain.

For example:

public_html/anotherdomain.co.nz
