How to change the PHP version in cPanel

This guide explains how to change the PHP version used by your website in cPanel.

Changing PHP versions can help with website compatibility, performance, or fixing errors caused by older PHP versions.

Step 1: Log in to cPanel

Log in to cPanel through your WebhostingNZ client area.

If you are unsure how to access cPanel, please follow this guide first:

Step 2: Open Select PHP Version

In cPanel, look for Select PHP Version.

This may be located under the Software section.

Step 3: Choose the PHP version

Select the PHP version you want your website to use.

We recommend using a currently supported PHP version where possible.

Older PHP versions may be available for compatibility, but they are end-of-life and may be removed in future.

Step 4: Save the change

Click Set as current or Apply to save the selected PHP version.

Your website should now use the selected PHP version.

Important notes

Some websites, themes, plugins, or scripts may not work correctly on newer PHP versions if they have not been kept up to date.

If your website shows errors after changing PHP version, try switching back temporarily and update your website software, themes, and plugins.
