How do I upload my site using File Manager in cPanel?

You can upload website files directly through cPanel using File Manager.

This is useful if you only need to upload a few files, a small website, or a compressed ZIP file.

Step 1: Log in to cPanel

Log in to cPanel through your WebhostingNZ client area.

If you are unsure how to access cPanel, follow this guide first:

How to access cPanel from the Client Area

Step 2: Open File Manager

In cPanel, click File Manager.

Step 3: Open the correct folder

For your main website, open the public_html folder.

This is where the website files for your main domain name are stored.

If you are uploading files for a subdomain or addon domain, open the folder that belongs to that subdomain or addon domain instead.

Step 4: Upload your files

Click Upload from the top menu.

Choose the file from your computer and wait for the upload to complete.

Step 5: Return to File Manager

Once the upload shows as complete, click the link to return to File Manager.

You should now see the uploaded file in the folder.

Important notes

Your homepage should normally be named one of the following:

  • index.html
  • index.htm
  • index.php

If there is no index file, your website may not load as expected.
